(Aug. 8) – Dakota Sproul made it two in a row in the IMCA Modified ranks Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Sproul held off New Mexico’s Cory Davis after a late caution flag to post his third DCRP win of the season. After starting sixth, Sproul spent the early going working towards the front as Kevin Gray set the pace. Sproul made it to second by the fourth lap and then slipped underneath Gray in turns one and two on the sixth round to take command. By Lonnie Wheatley With Sproul setting sail, Davis made his way forward from the ninth position to take over second at the midway point. And when a caution flew with just six laps to go that nixed Sproul’s advantage, Davis was there to mount a charge. Kaleb Roach notched his first Dodge City win of the year in IMCA SportMod action, Gregg Schell picked off his second IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win and Tathan Burkhart scored his second IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win of the year as well. Davis pulled alongside exiting turn four with three laps to go, but Sproul countered and slipped away to secure the victory. Davis settled for second with Odessa, Texas’ Philip Houston snaring the show position.
CLEVELAND >> As the Lakers stomached through another loss, Cleveland forward Kevin Love offered a few daggers that both pierces the team’s present and future.Love posted a season-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting in the Lakers’ 120-105 loss to the Cavaliers on Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena. Then he strongly dismissed any interest in signing with the Lakers this summer when he becomes a free agent. “I’m a Cleveland Cavalier,” said Love, a UCLA product. When pressed on if any scenario could entice him to join the Lakers, Love answered, “No.” A Cavaliers official then ended Love’s postgame interview. The Lakers have experienced plenty of rejection lately. Dwight Howard left for Houston two seasons ago after becoming a one-year rental. After unsuccessfully trading Pau Gasol for the past three seasons, they could not convince Gasol to stay instead of joining Chicago. The Lakers could not convince LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony, either. The Lakers still have Kobe Bryant, but he is out for the season with a surgically repaired right shoulder.Add it all up, and the Lakers (13-38) lost for the 13th time out of the past 14 games. They also tied a franchise-worst 10-game road losing streak that only the 1957-58 and 1963-64 teams matched. “Not my concern,” James said about the Lakers’ struggles after posting 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting. “I don’t get paid from the Lakers to be their GM. That’s up to them. They’ll figure it out.”The Lakers sure hope so.Scott called his players “soft” after the Lakers shot 41 percent from the field and conceded 22 fast-break points. Lakers forward Nick Young continued his struggles with his shooting accuracy (3 of 10) while also picking up a technical in the second quarter after expressing frustration about a missed foul call. As for James, Scott believed his departure partly stemmed from Miami president and former Lakers coach Pat Riley giving a season-ending press conference. Then, Riley argued “it takes guts” to stay after San Antonio ended the Heat’s back-to-back title run. “I think LeBron took that as a challenge,” said Scott, who played for Riley with the Showtime Lakers. “When I listened to that, I was like, ‘Woah.’ I think so did LeBron.” James’ initial departure from Cleveland in 2010 coincided with Scott just taking the Cavaliers’ coaching job. He was fired after compiling a 64-166 record through three seasons (2010-2013)“My thought was going into that year if by December if it wasn’t getting done, then yeah, I thought I should be fired,” Scott said. “When it happened, I was a little disappointed.”Yet, Scott maintains no regrets for taking the Cavaliers’ job, saying, “You don’t know if that better gig is going to come.”“I wouldn’t appreciate where I am right now. I never look back,” Scott said. “I try to focus on the present and the future.”Scott then repeated the Lakers front office has assured him they will have patience amid his latest rebuilding project. But the Lakers’ present contains endless losses. The Lakers’ future entails endless uncertainty if they can attract enough stars to change things back to the way it once was. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error
