Indian weightlifter Ajay Singh makes India proud

first_imgWeightlifting as a sport has caught a lot of attention recently. It is about an athlete’s discipline in which he/she attempts to lift maximum weight of a barbell loaded with plates of different weights. The two competition lifts in order are snatch and clean and jerk. Each athlete receives three chances to lift, the total of the highest two lifts are combined and that determines the result in a particular category. The categories can vary for male and female.More on Ajay’s winIndian athletes now take up this sport and also succeed in it. A recent example is Ajay Singh. Singh won a bronze medal in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship 2017. This championship was held at Kathmandu, Nepal.He bagged the third place in 77 kg men’s junior by lifting 143 kg in snatch and 172 kg in clean and jerk. India’ tally was coming out to be two in the championship and his victory increased the count by one and made it three.Other winnersApart from Ajay there were many more athletes that made India proud earlier in this international championship.S Nirpupama Devi had won bronze in 69 kg women youth category and Konsam Ormila Devi from Manipur had won gold medal in the 44 kg category.Interested in General Knowledge and Current Affairs?
